Juneteenth @ The Wright
Celebrate freedom, culture, and community at Juneteenth 2026 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History on Friday, June 19. This annual celebration honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans through a full day of family-friendly programming that blends history, education, art, music, wellness, and community connection. Visitors of all ages are invited to reflect on the meaning of freedom while enjoying engaging experiences that celebrate the resilience and contributions of Black communities.
Families can participate in hands-on activities throughout the day, including a Juneteenth resilience treasure hunt, freedom-themed crafts and coloring, a community quilting workshop, chalk art, horseback riding, book giveaways, chess activities, and a special Juneteenth bike ride. Educational programs include film screenings, discussions on food, health, and Black culinary traditions, along with opportunities to learn from artists, historians, and cultural leaders.
The celebration also features live performances, rhythm and dance presentations, cooking demonstrations, interactive cultural experiences, and a concert by Mollywop! that closes out the day. Whether you’re looking to learn more about the history of Juneteenth, enjoy meaningful family activities, or connect with Detroit’s vibrant cultural community, Juneteenth at The Wright offers an inspiring day of remembrance, reflection, and joy.
